AFS

AFS is a wide area network filesystem designed to provide secure access to your data from any computer. AFS is great for collaborating on projects, or as a cost-effective replacement for a departmental fileserver. AFS is now available as a recharge service from IST at a monthly rate of $0.51 per GB.

AFS provides:

  • Access to files from anywhere
  • CalNet authentication
  • Encryption of data over the network
  • Fine grained permission control

We offer several ways to access your data:

  • Native AFS Client
This is the preferred way to access your files; it is the fastest and you have full access to all of the features of AFS.
  • Filedrawers
Filedrawers is a web application that will work from any web browser. It is slower than using the AFS client, but still allows you to change permissions.
  • WebDAV
This will let you browse your folders using the Mac OS X Finder or Windows Explorer. It is slower than the native client, and can't be used to change permissions, but may be useful when the native client is not appropriate.
  • Web Sites
You can create a web site and publish it through AFS.
